Just last year Jenna Dickey was walking the halls of the Fashion Institute of Technology. Now she’s made her move downtown to NYU and is pursuing a double major in journalism and psychology. This 20-year-old woman from Kansas City, who is obsessed with The Sims and making candles in her spare time, opens up about her childhood, interests, and even embarrassing times.

Q: What was it like growing up?

A: I’m the second of four children but I’ve always been very connected to my family especially my mom. I’m a mama’s girl. For me, everything had to be fair between my sister and I. One of us couldn’t get more of something than the other. My dad’s a sales representative and my mom is a real estate agent so they both had full time jobs while I was growing up. Coming from Kansas City, I knew that I loved it but I also knew that I didn’t want to go to college there. Most people ended up staying in Kansas but I always wanted more.

Q: What made you transfer to NYU?

A: I’ve always loved NYU, but when I was a senior in high school I didn’t think I would get in so I didn’t even try. I liked FIT but I felt like I wasn’t being intellectually challenged enough and it all seemed very mundane. When I found out I got into NYU I was so overjoyed. I would definitely say it was my biggest accomplishment. I just transferred in the fall and have loved every moment. It’s more me and I really want to get more involved in the school itself. I want to join the feminist club at NYU and I just joined a transfer commuter club. I really hope there’s a crafts club of some sort here because I would love to join that too!

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: Well when I’m not running in between my internship at Rahua and school, I love playing volleyball, shopping especially for shoes, going out, and making candles. It’s my new fun thing I like to do. I also like watching TV. Some of my favorite shows are Broad City, Game of Thrones, South Park, Narcos, Sex and The City, and Breaking Bad. I also am an active gamer with Sims. I’m still obsessed with that game. I’ve been wanting to play more, but my brother stole my Nintendo DS so I can’t play unless I’m back home.

Q: What are your goals for after college?

A: I really want to be more involved in PR. I’ve just always seen myself heading more in that direction.  My all time goal would be to work for NARS. I absolutely love that brand and their aesthetic and what they stand for. I love that they bring sex and mix it with models that are beautiful in a unique way, but that aren’t necessarily considered sexy.

Q: What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

A: Well this is so embarrassing, but when I was younger I accidentally mooned a bunch of people. I was using a port-a-potty and I voluntarily opened the door while I was using it. I really don’t know why I did that.
